Art Exhibition: Louise Janetta at Art Café, Pavilion Gardens

A fabulous new exhibition has opened in the Art Cafe (upstairs above the Pavilion Gardens Tea Room). Combining a traditional artistic practice with an endlessly inventive mind, Louise Jannetta, part of the High Peak Artists group, creates extraordinary mixed media art as well as working in oils, watercolour, acrylics, printmaking and sculpture. All works on display are available to purchase. Artists on duty in the gallery can help with any questions. On until 2nd February 2025.

Buxton Crescent Experience tours – General & Premium Guided Tours

This unique visitor experience set across nine intimate rooms inside the iconic Buxton Crescent tells the stories of Buxton, The Grade I listed Crescent, Buxton’s famous water and the many people who came to seek its cure. One of the best things to do in Buxton this weekend if you’re looking to stay indoors and away from the cold! It offers a taste of the Buxton story, and provides an ideal starting point for anyone visiting or learning about the town.

The highlight of the tour is the VR (visual reality) balloon ride as you’re taken on a journey back in time to Buxton in 1792 in a hot air balloon! There are time slots for tours available all weekend. General admission ticket price is £11.99 adults, young person (8-15yrs) £7.99 OR Premium Guided Tour is £15.95 adults, young person (8-15yrs) £11. Sparkling guided tour £17.50.

Beneath the earth with enthusiastic guides, explore the vast limestone caverns at Poole’s Cavern and see how crystal stalactites have lined the chambers over millions of years. Stroll through beautiful woodland trails to a panoramic Peak District hilltop viewpoint. Poole’s Cavern is open daily with tours throughout the day. If you have time, do check out the Café in the Cavern at the visitor centre, they offer a great menu of light lunches and snacks as well as breakfast. It’s not a tap takeover as we’ve got loads of lines and will be pouring our house lager, cider, and stout as usual, but it’s all four of em and you’d be daft to miss it! Pavilion Gardens 5k Parkrun

A free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate – it’s up to you! Taking place every Saturday at 9am. The run starts on Broad Walk. From 9am, 18th January. It’s free to join in.

Roller Skating Disco with Roller Energy

Roller skate your way into the weekend with Roller Energy, suitable for all the family! roller disco’s are a high energy combination of roller skating, thumping beats and awesome lighting shows. Every session has a dedicated beginners area where you can safely learn the basics of roller skating from our experienced instructors. Once you have gained confidence you will be able to join the main section of the rink, where the fun really starts! Session entry prices £6.50 per person plus £2 for skate hire if required (unless you are bringing your own skates), Toddler skate entry £5 entry £2 skate hire,  Family deals – 10% off entry price for families of 3, 4 & 5. The Buxton Toy Collectors Fair sees the historic Pavilion Gardens packed full with 150 stalls selling all kinds of toys, trains and models. The dealers who take stalls at the show travel from all over the country and bring with them a huge selection of new and old collectable’s to sell. Prices start from just £1 and can run up to several hundred pounds for the very rarest items. Entry / Cost: Adults – £3.50, Senior Citizens – £3, Children £1 – (under 5s free), (Early Entry from 8am – £7), TICKETS ARE PURCHASED ON THE DOOR ON THE DAY. 19th January 2025, 10.30 am – 3pm.

The Ronnie Scott’s Story at Buxton Opera House

Sunday Folk Sessions: Kootch at Buxton Brewery Trackside

Playing at Buxton Brewery Trackside, Kootch are a four-piece band from Yorkshire that play something like folk music. With guitars, fiddle, banjo, occasional mandolin, and a wooden drum, Beth and Dean Lilleyman, Katy Campbell, and Ian Tilbrook weave toe-tapping tunes with stories of love, loss, and the occasional murderous tree. Their sets feature re-imagined obscure trad-folk and self-penned originals inspired by tall tales and kooky folklore. For more about the band, visit www.kootch.net.
