Archive: This article describes the 2025 Buxton Fringe. The organiser lists the next festival for 7–25 July 2027.
In March 2025, Buxton Festival Fringe reported that more than 100 entrants had registered for the festival, which ran from 9 to 27 July 2025. The details below describe the programme as announced at the time.
The early-bird period had closed at the end of February. Managed venue Underground announced two spaces for 2025, at Spring Gardens and in Fairfield.
The reduced entry fee was available until the end of March, with a printed-programme deadline of 20 April 2025.
The organisers said 36 comedy events had registered, including new shows from Maura Jackson and Nathan Cassidy, a live edition of Rob Rouse and Tom Wrigglesworth’s podcast The Unlikely Weightlifters, and returns for Late Night Dirty Scrabble, Impromptu Shakespeare, Jesters Dublin and Barrel of Laughs.
Music entrants included Hannah Brine, Adrian Lord, Judy Dunlop, Peter Buxton, Gifts from Crows, Basin Street Blues, Lullaby of Harlem, Bob Hall and Hilary Blythe, and Take Two. The announcement also listed classical guitar, orchestras, choirs and brass bands.
Chapel-en-le-Frith Morris announced two days of dance for its 50th anniversary, and Retro Mike advertised a disco in aid of Blythe House Hospice.
The theatre entries included Sweet Productions’ Flora MacDonald and Zombies and Worklight Theatre’s It’s the Economy Stupid. Local author Peter Sleigh also listed his thriller Death of the Author.
Visual arts entries included Art at the Crescent, Art in the Octagon and the Buxton Photo Challenge 2025.
The announcement also listed the Serpentine Community Garden, the Pride Picnic, The Shakespeare Jukebox, Funny Wonders’ Flowerpot Trail and Fringe Sunday.
A free Springboard preview was advertised at The Pump Room for 12 April 2025, from 7pm to 9pm.
Fringe Vice Chair Jeanette Hamilton said in March 2025: “With over 100 entries already it’s shaping up to be a bumper year. The attraction of Buxton’s friendly Fringe is demonstrated by the number of returning entries as well as lots of new performers. We can’t wait to welcome them all and see what they have in store for us and find out what Buxton audiences think!”
