Buxton springs to life with a host of family-friendly activities hosted by the Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust. From the whimsical Spring Duck Trail to crafting sessions and storytime with Sue Wilkins, there’s something for all ages over the Easter holiday and onwards.
Set against the backdrop of the magnificent Assembly Rooms, Buxton Visitor Centre (The Pump Room), and the Buxton Crescent Experience, these events promise to transport visitors back to the grandeur of the Georgian era as well as lots of delightful experiences for families and children.
Spring Duck Trail around Buxton!
Buxton is gearing up for a delightful burst of springtime festivities with the arrival of the much-anticipated Spring Duck Trail, organised by the Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust. On until 15th April, locals and visitors alike are invited to partake in this whimsical adventure through the town’s charming streets, shops, and cafes to find the hidden rubber ducks across town!
Families can pick up free trail guides at the Pump Room, leading them on a merry quest to discover quirky rubber ducks hidden throughout Buxton. Successfully completing the trail, adventurers can return their guides to the Pump Room, either in person or via social media with a dedicated hashtag, for a chance to win exciting prizes.
Pick and Mix Crafting for Easter holidays
Explore Pick & Mix Crafting at the Pump Room as Buxton celebrates Easter. Beyond the Spring Duck Trail, explore their interactive indoor trail, revealing hidden gems and intriguing facts. Unleash your creativity at the Craft Table, mixing materials to craft your Easter masterpiece. The Pump Room is daily from 10am to 4pm.
Arkright the Duck – Storytime and Crafting
But the fun doesn’t stop there. Children’s author Sue Wilkins will lead a lively Storytime & Crafting session in the Assembly Rooms, where youngsters can immerse themselves in the world of Arkwright the Duck.
Following a delightful tale, kids can get creative with duck-themed crafts under Sue’s guidance, making for a quacking good time!
Sue will read her tale of an adventurous duck and then you will get the opportunity to make your own duck-themed crafts using simple materials. You’ll also have a chance to ask Sue questions about her book and get your copy signed! Tickets £5. Click here to book.
Their popular Crescent Crafts session also takes place on 8th April with water-themed sensory bags, doll’s house, dressing up, tea set and the ever popular LEGO! No need to book tickets for Crescent Crafts – just drop in and enjoy the fun.
Crafternoons – Crafting Sessions for Adults
For those seeking creative fulfilment, the popular adult Crafternoons continue on select Fridays, offering a relaxed atmosphere for crafting enthusiasts to unleash their creativity under the guidance of Education Manager, Louise Brooks.
Sessions may include sketching, watercolour painting, pastels, collage, crochet, origami, quilling and felting or feel free to bring along your own project to work on.

Under 5s Children’s Activity Sessions
Families are invited to join in with the popular Pitter Patter sessions tailored for children under 5, transforming four rooms of the Crescent Experience into a haven of imaginative play and sensory exploration.
Maybe you’ll dress up like a duchess, take tea with the Duke. Play with a dolls house or construct a Crescent with building blocks!

Afternoon Tea and 1920s Fashion Show
Tea for Two: Afternoon Tea and Fashion Show on 25th April will offer a rare opportunity to see a selection Hope House Costume Museum’s 1920s high fashion on live models, in the elegant surroundings of the Crescent’s Assembly Rooms.

Cocktails ‘n’ Canvas – Unleash Your Inner Monet!
Unleash your inner artist on 10th May with Cocktails and Canvas, an evening of fun and creativity in The Pump Room. Paint your own interpretation of Monet’s Water Lilies under the guidance of talented instructors from the team at Cocktails and Canvas!
Ideal for beginners with step by step instructions and all equipment provided to take home your very own Monet style masterpiece. A selection of hot and cold drinks will be available to purchase, including wines, beers and their very own Monet mimosa cocktail priced at just £3.50. Tickets for the event are £35.95. Regency Ball returns for the third year
Get ready to dance the night away at the eagerly awaited third annual Regency Ball, returning on 28th September 2024 in the Assembly Rooms. Lose yourself in the enchanting melodies of the Pemberley Players and brush up on your dance moves with Dance Master Reg Battle.
Enjoy a welcome drink, delectable Georgian desserts, and a chance to win fantastic prizes in the charity raffle, generously provided by local businesses. Don’t forget to capture the magic of the evening with photographer Arlen Connolly and take home a bespoke illustration from Studio Marrit. With music and dancing continuing until 11pm, this promises to be an unforgettable night of elegance and revelry! The Buxton Crescent Experience, located inside the Ensana Buxton Crescent Hotel is open 7 days a week. The perfect choice for families, the interactive elements will keep children amused and educated while history buffs can dig deeper into the story of the town.
