By Rail

Buxton Train Station is located in the town centre and a direct service runs throughout the day to and from Manchester Piccadilly taking just one 1 hour. London is 1 hour 40 minutes by train to nearby town Macclesfield (Virgin Trains serve this route); here you can catch bus number 58 from Macclesfield bus station to Buxton which takes 35 minutes (they run every hour at peak times during the day) – Macclesfield bus station is just a few minutes walk from the railway station. Stockport offers a direct service to Buxton and connections to Stockport operate from all over the country. By Bus

The 185/186 Fairfield / Harpur Hill service travels across the town and into the areas of Fairfield and Harpur Hill. The Town Service 77 bus operates between the Market Place and Sylvan Park (end of Spring Gardens), via Heath Grove.

There are a number of bus services in and out of Buxton from major destinations.

The Skyline 199 operates a regular service between Buxton and Manchester Airport, with stops including Stepping Hill Hospital and Stockport Bus Station.

The Transpeak (TP) run by High Peak Buses takes just 1 hour 40 minutes to and from Manchester and runs fairy regularly during the day. The Transpeak also operates between Derby and Buxton and takes approx 1 hour 50 minutes.

The TM Travel 65 bus operates between Buxton and Sheffield which leaves from Sheffield city centre.

High Peak Buses operate the 58 bus, Buxton to Macclesfield, (every hour during peak times Mon – Sat). The 58 bus also operates between Buxton and Chatsworth on Sundays only.

Bus service 61 serves Glossop, from Buxton.

Buses 441/442 serves Ashbourne, from Buxton.

The 16 bus service operates between Leek and Buxton.

By Coach

National Express operate coaches between Buxton and London Central (London Victoria Bus Station). Coaches generally operate every 2 hours. Tickets can booked in advance via the National Express express website for both single and return journeys.

By Road

Buxton is well connected by road and within easy reach of the motorway. The A6 is north-bound into the town from Manchester with the M56 motorway close to Manchester airport. From Birmingham west-bound the M6 can be taken with the route towards Stoke-on-Trent and Leek turning off at Junction 15. Travelling south/east-bound from Leicester you can take the M1 and turn off at various junctions depending on which route you wish to take. From Nottingham or Derby you can take the A610 and then onto the A6 into Buxton south-bound. By Air

Buxton is well placed for access to Manchester Airport (approximately a 1 hour drive), a major airport for flights in and out of the UK and is the global gateway for the North of England. Direct flights both long and short haul serve 200 destinations worldwide.
