Essential Visitor Information

Transport to and from Buxton

Getting to Buxton couldn’t be simpler with excellent public transport routes and major roads into the town and area. Check our comprehensive guide on travelling to and from Buxton here, with information on local buses, trains and more.

Accessing NHS Healthcare

The National Health Service (NHS) is the main healthcare provider in the UK.

NHS treatment is free for UK residents. Overseas nationals are not eligible for free NHS treatment, except if they need emergency treatment while in the UK.

The UK government strongly advises visitors to take out appropriate travel insurance for the duration of your trip to cover any medical expenses.

If you are visiting from Europe, make sure to carry a valid EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) in case you need immediate and necessary medical treatment in an NHS hospital; you can also read information here on accessing healthcare for visitors to the UK from EU countries, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.

Changing Places, Disabled Access Public Toilet

The Pavilion Gardens, High Peak Borough Council and Parkwood Leisure worked in partnership to install a Changing Places toilet in the entrance of the The Octagon Hall, opposite the ice cream parlour to cater to the needs of disabled individuals.

More than a quarter of a million people in the UK with disabilities cannot use standard accessible toilets, as they do not accommodate all disability needs. Changing Places toilets are designed to meet these requirements.

This facility includes a movable hoist for access throughout the room, a changing table, and an adjustable sink and toilet. The installation ensures that everyone, regardless of their access needs, disability, or dependence on carers or specialist equipment, can use a toilet with hygiene and dignity.
