Buxton Opera House is celebrating a fantastic achievement after its dedicated team of volunteers was awarded Gold in the ‘Team of the Year’ category at the 2026 Visit Peak District, Derbyshire and Derby Tourism Awards.
The theatre’s front-of-house volunteers, made up of more than 130 local people, play a vital role in delivering a warm welcome and high-quality experience for visitors. Their commitment and passion were recognised by judges as a key part of what makes the Opera House such a special place.
The awards ceremony, held in March 2026 alongside the Nottinghamshire Tourism Awards, brought together some of the region’s leading tourism businesses and organisations to celebrate excellence across the sector.

Volunteers are at the heart of the Opera House’s day-to-day operations, supporting everything from audience services to event delivery. Their contribution ensures thousands of visitors each year enjoy a memorable and welcoming theatre experience.
Buxton Opera House hosts a busy programme of events all year including Buxton International Festival and The International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival. BOH also manage Pavilion Arts Center with a busy film programme (formerly Buxton Cinema).
