Buxton Opera House is celebrating a fantastic achievement after its dedicated team of volunteers was awarded Gold in the ‘Team of the Year’ category at the 2026 Visit Peak District, Derbyshire and Derby Tourism Awards.
In 2026, the theatre said its front-of-house team included more than 130 local volunteers. Their contribution to the visitor experience was recognised with the award.
The awards ceremony, held in March 2026 alongside the Nottinghamshire Tourism Awards, brought together some of the region’s leading tourism businesses and organisations to celebrate excellence across the sector.

Volunteers are at the heart of the Opera House’s day-to-day operations, supporting everything from audience services to event delivery. Their contribution ensures thousands of visitors each year enjoy a memorable and welcoming theatre experience.
Buxton Opera House hosts a varied programme including Buxton International Festival and the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival. The theatre also manages the Pavilion Arts Centre, home to Buxton Cinema.
