Travel for Just £3 – How it Works
The Government’s £3 fare cap, introduced in January 2025 and running until 31 March 2027, ensures affordable bus travel for millions of passengers across England.
The scheme means that no eligible single bus fare will cost more than £3, with some journeys offering savings of up to 80% compared to previous fares. The initiative is particularly beneficial for people living in rural communities and market towns, making it easier to access attractions, shops, services and leisure opportunities without the expense of driving.
Tickets can be purchased directly on board using cash, a contactless bank card, or a mobile payment device.
