No.6 The Square Tearooms in Buxton is an elegant tea room nestled in the heart of the historic quarter in the town centre. Located in a beautifully restored Georgian building overlooking Buxton’s iconic Grade I listed Pavilion Gardens and opposite the famous Edwardian Buxton Opera House, it offers a cozy yet refined atmosphere that’s perfect for enjoying a traditional English tea experience.
The interior captures English country elegance with period furnishings, soft lighting, and tasteful decor that beautifully reflect the building’s Georgian heritage. Whether you’re starting your day with a morning coffee or enjoying a light lunch, No.6 provides a perfect backdrop.
The menu boasts a delightful range of options, all using locally sourced produce where possible. Well-known for its delicious homemade food, the tea room offers everything from Derbyshire Oatcakes, homemade cakes, homemade quiche, soup of the day, open and closed sandwiches and Afternoon Tea.

A highlight of visiting No.6 is the traditional English Afternoon Tea. This includes a selection of sandwiches, a home-baked fruit scone with jam and clotted cream, and a variety of homemade cakes. All are served on a classic 3-tier stand alongside a selection of specialty teas. To make it extra special, you can add a glass of sparkling pink or white Prosecco to your afternoon tea.
No.6 is ideally placed for a pre-theatre lunch or an early dinner before catching a show at the nearby opera house. During the summer months, guests can enjoy the lovely secluded outdoor terrace on the first floor or opt for the outdoor seating at the front.
Private hire / functions: The John White room on the 1st floor is available for private hire – from baby showers, wakes, birthday parties, private lunches and dinners and more.
For those wishing to extend their stay, No.6 also offers accommodation. Above the tea room are four double rooms with en-suite facilities. In addition, a self-contained apartment on the ground floor at No.7 The Square.

There are four double bedrooms above the tea room, all named after the views from their windows: ‘Opera House’, ‘Pavilion Gardens’, ‘Crescent’ and ‘Devonshire Dome’. All the rooms are tastefully decorated to reflect the buildings Georgian heritage.
Breakfast can be taken in No.6 The Square Tearooms, from 9am at an additional charge.
