Despite the current economic challenges, Buxton’s independent business boom appears to be continuing as a brand new hairdressing salon in Buxton’s Spring Gardens opens. Angie’s Hair Boutique, located in the former Claire’s Accessories unit, celebrated with a grand opening in April.
Originally from Surrey, Sisters Marie and Michelle took the plunge and made the move to the north last summer; with family already located in the High Peak, it was time for a change. Despite occupying a premier spot in the centre of town, the sisters are keen to offer an affordable service with cut and blow drys from £36 and a full head of highlights from £60. Services also include gents and children’s hair.
“The response since opening the salon in early April has been fantastic and business community along Spring Gardens have made us so welcome. We’re now looking for chair renters to join our team at salon, so please get in touch if you’d know more” said co-owner Marie.
Spring Gardens has long been Buxton’s commercial centre and home to many businesses over the years. If you want to get a sense of the street’s age, just look up at the upper stories of the shop facades. Angie’s is set to become another staple feature and as far as we know, is the first ever hairdressers on Spring Gardens, although older residents may know different.
From being apprentices and juniors to renting a chair and eventually owning their own salon in Bletchingley, Surrey, the sisters together bring a wealth of knowledge and their own specialisms to the business, having both worked in the industry for more than 25 years since leaving school.
“We were keen to keep working together, its works brilliantly, it’s pretty much all we’ve known all our working lives. The salon is very much a family business – we named the salon after our late Mum who passed away seven years ago, it really means a lot to us that our Mum can still a big part of the business. I really love the cutting side of hairdressing, to see a client leave happy with new hair is the best feeling ever”, said Marie.
From lowlights to bold, Michelle enjoys colours. “To be able to create a colour a client loves is amazing. We make a great team with our own skills from the years we’ve worked together. We want every client who leaves the salon to feel like we’ve listened to them – and to feel fabulous”.
