This Christmas, step into the magical glow of festive lights and projections in the awe-inspiring 2-million-year-old limestone caverns at Poole’s Cavern.
With a Self-Guided Light Walk ticket, you can explore the beautifully decorated chambers at your own pace and learn about the cavern’s fascinating history and geology from their knowledgeable custodians.
If you missed out on tickets to Santa’s Grotto (an annual sell-out), this is your chance to experience the caverns in their full festive splendour, lit up especially for the season!
While Santa’s Grotto will be illuminated, please note that Santa and his elves are very busy during this season and may not be present. However, you might catch a glimpse of Santa with other families.

One of Derbyshire’s ‘seven wonders’ of the Peak
The No.1 on Tripadvisor attraction which is now dog friendly was described as one of Derbyshire’s ‘seven wonders’, visitors have been making their way in to this subterranean marvel for centuries. The Duke of Devonshire turned Poole’s Cavern into a tourist attraction in 1854 and even before that, there were unofficial and somewhat dubious guided tours by local residents. Mary Queen of Scots famously visited and then there’s the tale of the eponymous outlaw named Poole himself, not to mention the Romans.
The cave and surrounding Buxton Country Park is a haven for wildlife and there’s more creatures and wildlife that live in here than most people realise
