Buxton International Festival is among five festivals nominated for ‘Best Opera Festival’ in the 2024 International Opera Awards. These prestigious awards annually honour excellence in opera globally. The shortlisted nominees represent over 25 countries.
In addition to the festival award, there are categories for conductors, directors, singers, and designers, among others. Winners will be revealed on 2nd October 2024 at a gala ceremony hosted by Bayerische Staatsoper at Munich’s Prinzregententheater.

The awards aim to:
• Elevate opera’s profile as an art form;
• Recognize and reward opera success;
• Generate funds for bursaries supporting emerging opera talent worldwide.
Judging is conducted by a panel of industry experts, chaired by Opera magazine editor John Allison.
