Summer Fun for all the family
This summer, the Heights of Abraham offers a variety of activities for all ages. Begin your adventure with the 554ft alpine cable car flight featuring breathtaking views of the surrounding Derwent Valley, and, High Tor, the impressive limestone crag overlooking Matlock.
At the summit, enjoy guided tours of historic illuminated show caverns, interactive exhibits, woodland trails, and stunning panoramic views from the estate’s vantage points.
Adventure Playgrounds
Young adventurers will love the two exciting play areas! The Explorer’s Challenge, located at the summit, is a thrilling mini assault course perfect for little ones. Further down the estate, the Woodland Adventure offers a fun-filled experience with ropes and swings to keep your children active. Don’t miss the chance for a family race on the famous giant slides—fun for all ages!
Dine with a view!
While the kids play, adults can relax in the beautifully landscaped gardens and enjoy refreshments at the Vista Restaurant, situated almost 1000ft above sea level. They can also visit The Terrace Café and The Tavern which boasts the oldest beer license in the area.
Punch and Judy Shows – Three Shows a day during summer
The Punch and Judy Anniversary Special is a pinnacle in puppetry and entertainment, promising a dazzling display of humour, wit, and exceptional puppeteering skills. This extravaganza, packed with fresh and hilarious twists, will leave everyone, from kids to adults, in stitches. With clever dialogue and masterful puppetry, this is an event not to be missed! There are three shows per day until 1st September.
Bring Your Dog
The Heights of Abraham welcomes well-behaved dogs on leads throughout the park, making it a fantastic outing for the whole family, including your four-legged friends.
There are lots of trails to explore around the park including the Willow Sculpture Trail added in 2022, by artist Caroline Gregson, celebrating local heritage.

2024 – A Landmark Year for the Attraction
This year marks the 50th ‘Golden Anniversary’ since the Pugh family took over the dilapidated hilltop estate, transforming it into today’s flourishing attraction. In April, the estate commemorated the 40th ‘Ruby Anniversary’ of its iconic alpine-style cable cars, offering a scenic ascent to Masson Hill’s summit, a haven of spectacular views and enchanting caverns that have captivated visitors since 1787.
Save the dates! Autumn and Winter Events 2024
Lights of Abraham: Festive Tickets on Sale Now In addition to summer fun, HOA is excited to announce that tickets for the Lights of Abraham festive event are now on sale. This popular event taking place on 22nd November – 30th December, transforms the park into a winter wonderland with spectacular light displays, festive decorations, and special seasonal activities. October Half Term and the Freights of Abraham Visitors can meet the friendly Halloween scarecrows, taste the witches’ brew in the café, and explore the enchanted Rutland Cavern to hear the legend of the caves from a Victorian guide. They can toast marshmallows outside the tavern and browse the spooky gift shop for the perfect Halloween souvenir. For a howlingly good day out, everyone is invited to join in this October half term.
