Former home of Green Man Gallery in Buxton set for auction with £250,000 Guide Price

A landmark Buxton property with a rich and varied history, Hardwick Hall, is set to go under the hammer with SDL Property Auctions on Thursday, 27th November 2025, at 9am. The impressive 22-bedroom building, once home to The Green Man Gallery, carries a guide price of £250,000.

Dating back to c.1895, Hardwick Hall was originally built as an extension to The Peak Hydropathic Hotel, the neighbouring property that later became home to Buxton Museum and Art Gallery.

Over the decades, Hardwick Hall has seen many transformations. In its early years, it operated as part of a hotel before being repurposed as a Canadian Army Hospital during the First World War, alongside the adjoining Peak Buildings.

Following the Second World War, the property was purchased by the local branch of the Royal British Legion, becoming a well-loved community venue for dances, concerts, and social gatherings for many years.

In 2014, the Green Man Gallery moved into the building, establishing it as a vibrant arts hub until its closure in 2024.

The neighbouring Peak Buildings – formerly Buxton Museum and Art Gallery – was also sold by SDL Property Auctions in November 2024 for £435,000.

Now, with its rich heritage and striking architecture, Hardwick Hall presents a rare opportunity for new custodians to breathe life into one of Buxton’s most storied buildings.
