Gallery in the Gardens busier than ever with record breaking twelve months

High Peak Artists, operators of Gallery in the Gardens are celebrating a record breaking last twelve months, with sales up across all areas of the gallery. The opening of Buxton Crescent Hotel, a continued trend in staycations and an increase in day visitors to the town all helped to make the gallery achieve its best ever sales to date since first opening back in 2009.

Secretary Pauline Townsend said “the Pavilion Gardens is a must visit tourist attraction and we are grateful to operators Parkwood Leisure and High Peak Borough Council, who have invested heavily in making the Gardens the beautiful venue it is today.  We like to think the gallery offers something for every pocket.  We carry a huge range of artist greeting cards all priced at £2.50 plus many prints, original paintings, jewellery, ceramics, wood, glass, printmaking, photography & textiles. The artwork is varied, from silk paintings to watercolours, the range is fantastic.  We have visitors who return year after year to stock up on their Christmas presents!”

New members join for 2023

The gallery has three new members, textile artist Anne Humberstone from Chapel uses different manipulation techniques such as free machine embroidery, soluble fabrics and heat to produce her artworks.  Her recent work includes landscapes made from Harris Tweed fabric.

From 1st March she will be joined by artist/illustrator Kate Gandolfo & textile artist Sally Wilson.  Kate works primarily in oils and her colourful vibrant paintings are often influenced by traditional folk and medieval art and the nature around her.

Textile artist Sally Wilson studied textile design at University and over the years has amassed a wealth of interesting fabrics and in addition, she also dyes her own fabrics.  Sally now plans to use these to combine applique with free-motion embroidery and create unique textile artworks.

Anne, Kate & Sally join 40 other resident artists & makers in the gallery.  The gallery is staffed with artists every day and are on hand for any questions. Everything you see at the exhibition is available to buy, so you can find something truly unique and even collect pieces by your favourite artist.

If you’re looking for a gift with a difference, there’s something to suit all budgets with many items starting at just £10. Equally if you’re looking for a larger statement piece there’s plenty to choose from.

With repair work now complete within the Pavilion Gardens complex, you can make a full day of it when you visit. Pavilion Kitchen and Pavilion Tea Room are adjacent to the gallery if you’re looking to stop for lunch or a quick coffee. The gallery also shares its space with the recently opened Buxton Brewery Bar & Shop where you can enjoy their famous craft ales as well as being able to purchase gift boxes of bottles and cans and other locally produced gifts.

The gallery is open every day from 9.30am – 4.00pm on weekdays and 9.30am – 5.00pm at weekends. Entry is free.
