Step into the Past

Meet Historical Characters
On 6th, 7th, and 8th August, step back to the early 1800s and meet George Stephenson, the pioneer of the world’s first public railway. Hear his inspiring story in talks at 11.15am – 11:45am and 2pm – 2.30pm, and get the chance to ask him questions afterwards.

Build and Solve
Kids can roll up their sleeves and construct a mini section of the Stockton and Darlington track, or tackle a fun problem-solving challenge about railway construction.

Life on the Rails
Find out what life was like for tram crews in the 1940s! Try your hand at working a real ticket machine and explore how trams shaped travel in Britain.
