Buxton Carnival and Well Dressing Festival 2021 is postponed

Buxton Carnival

Buxton Well Dressing Festival have confirmed that the two-week long festival, which includes Buxton Carnival Day, has been postponed for the second year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The festival which takes place annually in the first two weeks of July is one of Buxton’s biggest events of the year, with Buxton Carnival Day attracting around 50,000 visitors alone. 2020 marked 180 years since the tradition first started in the town.

Organisers who announced the news on social media and on their website said, “We are sad to announce that the Buxton Well Dressings and Carnival have been postponed and will not go ahead in July as originally hoped.”

“The continuing uncertainty and risks involved with the pandemic have led us to this decision. The safety of the hundreds of people involved in the preparation for the events is of utmost importance to us and was our primary consideration.”

However all is not lost!

“We are hoping to hold the Buxton Well Dressing Festival in some form in the late summer/early autumn”, said the organisers.
