Gallery in the Gardens artists present ‘Art in the Octagon’ in 2024 for third year running

Nestled within the scenic Pavilion Gardens lies a hidden gem for art enthusiasts: the Gallery in the Gardens. Showcasing the vibrant creativity of the High Peak Artists group, this gallery offers a diverse array of affordable artwork crafted by 42 resident professional artists from the Peak District and Derbyshire area. With record-breaking visitor numbers in 2023, the gallery eagerly anticipates another year of success. But what exciting developments await visitors in 2024?

Art in the Octagon is back for 2024 showcasing 30+ artists and makers with demonstrations

Art in the Octagon makes a welcome return this summer in the Octagon Hall 8th, 9th and 10th July, open 10am – 5pm each day.

Following record visitors to the event last year and a nomination in the 2023 Buxton Festival Fringe awards for Best Visual Art Event, the event is back this summer with even more to explore.

With demonstrations on every stand, artists will be showcasing their techniques including oils, pastels, urban sketching, silk painting, wood turning, photography, printmaking, ceramics, jewellery, textiles and lots more.

Come along and chat to your favourite artists like Sandra Orme, Louise Jannetta, Pauline Townsend, Rita Chang, Tracey Coverley and meet new members Kate Gandolfo and Bel Holland.  It’s a great event and what’s more it’s free to enter!

Art Café – more pop-up exhibitions planned

A notable feature complementing Gallery’s offerings is the Art Café, situated on the mezzanine above the Pavilion Tea Room, which hosts regular short-term exhibitions. This extension of the Gallery provides a dynamic space for members to periodically present more of their work, both individually and collaboratively, ensuring there’s always something fresh to admire and they plan to have more pop-up exhibitions for 2024.

Among the talented artists contributing to the Gallery’s allure is the newest addition, S & S Stained Glass. Steve and Sue, self-taught stained glass artisans, bring their unique creations to the forefront, employing Tiffany-style and lead came techniques. Their handmade pieces, crafted in various sizes and incorporating a rich palette of colours and textures, add a distinct charm to the gallery’s collection.

Visitors can also enjoy the latest offerings from established artists. Emma Sidwell introduces vibrant additions to her jewellery range, featuring insects and butterflies. Meanwhile, Bel Holland unveils a fresh series of ceramics, and Pentimento refreshes their display with more of their sought-after painted tiles. With new artwork continuously adorning the walls, there’s no shortage of inspiration for art enthusiasts and collectors alike.

For those seeking a moment of respite during their visit, the family friendly Pavilion Kitchen and the more formal Tea Room next door, offer a selection of snacks, freshly baked goods, light lunches and refreshing beverages. They offer the perfect opportunity to recharge and relax during your visit here.

Further enhancing the Pavilion Gardens experience, recent changes in the Retail Hall offer an expanded range of locally sourced produce and handcrafted goods from the region. From artisanal treats to bespoke crafts, there’s something to pique everyone’s interest and support local talent as well as the Buxton Brewery Bar where visitors can enjoy a craft ale.

At the heart of the Gallery in the Gardens is its dedicated team of artists, who are on hand daily to assist visitors and answer any questions.

All artwork on display is available for purchase, allowing you to take home a piece of the Peak District’s creative spirit and perhaps start their your own collection from a favourite artist.
