REVIEW: Footloose, Buxton Opera House Tue 30th May – Sat 3rd June 2017

Starring Gareth Gates as Willard and Maureen Nolan as Vi Moore

Footloose is back and better than ever before! We went along to the opening night on Tuesday 30th May to check out the show – and from the word go – it was thoroughly entertaining and we knew we were in for a great night at the Opera House in Buxton.

Gareth Gates’ performance as Willard was superb from start to finish – not to mention that we took no exception at all when his shirt came off! But the entire cast delivered a high energy performance throughout.

It’s a traditional feel good, dance filled musical show about not being allowed to dance, which might seem a bit daft but the show pulls it off seamlessly. We particularly loved character ‘Rusty’ played by Laura Sillett who literally has bags and bags of energy and is a real asset to the show. The choreography was superb across the entire cast and well thought out too.

Towards the end of the show, the audience were on their feet and couldn’t get enough it of it! It also has to be said that the whole cast not only danced and sang but they played instruments live on stage too – a mean feet for any performer, from clarinets to flutes and saxophones this added another dynamic to this unmissable show. You don’t have to be fan of or even familiar with the story of Footloose or the original 80s film either.

There’s still ticket availability – the show continues to run Thursday 1st, Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd June at Buxton Opera House. For more information and online bookings, go to: buxtonoperahouse.org.uk/event/footloose. Discounts and concessions are also available.
