Work has begun at Buxton’s first McDonald’s, creating up to 120 jobs with 30 of those being full time positions. A planning application was submitted in 2022 for the drive-thru restaurant on the site that was previously occupied by Aldi on Station Road in Buxton town centre.

S.E.S Developments are undertaking the work who specialise in the construction of petrol filling stations, schools, fast food restaurants, warehousing, car parking, office facilities and residential developments.

A spokesperson at McDonald’s said “We are excited about the opportunity to open a new restaurant in Buxton, bringing significant investment and new jobs to the local area.”

“Work has already started on site with a view to opening in Summer 2025.”

The former Aldi building was demolished and they moved to a new bigger superstore on the A515 in Harpur Hill on the outskirts of Buxton, which opened in November 2023.

The new McDonalds restaurant will open from 6am to midnight; High Peak Borough Council’s Development Control Committee rejected the the original planning application for a 24-hour drive-through service.

The planning application details a reduction in car parking spaces from 71 to 64 as well as creating 8 new cycle spaces for bikes. Other, separate planning applications have been made for the famous ‘gold arches’ signage.
