From pandemic beginnings to community cornerstone – KVLT Hair celebrates its 5th anniversary with a move next door to a larger, creative new hub.
KVLT Hair has levelled up – moving just next door into a bigger, better space on Market Street in Buxton. The upgrade comes as the business marks an exciting milestone: celebrating five years of cutting-edge style and loyal clientele.
Founded in 2020 by Ben Gillooly, KVLT Hair opened its doors under unique circumstances. “I wasn’t phased by the lockdown,” Ben says of the business’ delayed launch. “I was determined to open, so I just waited it out.” That resilience paid off and he opened with great success on 4th July 2020, the very day businesses were allowed to reopen post-lockdown.
Growing the team
Originally launched in The Arches, Ben grew a loyal customer base before relocating to Market Street two years later. Today, KVLT’s team includes fellow barbers Jake and Logan, as well as new junior barber Megan, who recently joined after finishing college. Megan’s cuts are currently half price as she hones her craft under Ben’s guidance.
The team also now features Chloe, a hair extensions specialist, fully qualified in nano, micro, and tape extensions, who works from the studio’s private studio room to create natural-looking length and volume. Consultations and appointments with Chloe can be booked directly on 07794 857257.
Ben, 38, first trained as a ladies’ hairdresser in New Zealand before returning to the UK and training under a master barber. His ambition? To run a barbershop with a difference – and he’s certainly made his mark.
“What we offer isn’t just a haircut – it’s a proper, personal and professional barber experience. I’m really passionate about making every client feel looked after, and over time that’s helped us build a brilliant base of regulars. No two days are the same, and that’s exactly why I love it”, says Ben.
KVLT Hair offers a full range of barbering services, including haircuts, beard trims, and full shaves. The business also caters for weddings, offering affordable grooming for grooms, best men, and ushers, and, at the same price as regular salon services.
Excitingly, Ben’s son is set to join as an apprentice in September, once he finishes his GCSEs. “I can’t wait to show him the ropes and see what he can do,” says Ben.
Introducing the Shared Studio Space
The move to their new, much larger premises in May has also opened the door to something brand new: KVLT’s Shared Studio Space.
“Moving next door means we can offer more and take things further. The new ‘shared studio’ is the perfect spot for alternative businesses, creatives, and independent hustlers looking for a flexible, affordable space to host, create, sell, or shoot”.
The studio features high ceilings, good lighting, mirrors, seating, and power access, making it ideal for everything from photoshoots to pop-ups. Anyone interested can DM the team on social media or call 07519 901510 to find out more.
