Review: Joan Collins dazzles audience in pink sequins at Buxton Opera House

Global superstar Joan Collins dazzled the audience at Buxton Opera House on Sunday 25th February, as part of her one-woman show touring show Joan Collins, Unscripted.

We spent a wonderful evening in the company of the iconic Hollywood legend in conversation with her husband Percy, taking questions from the audience.

Joan looked stunning in a pink sequinned dress and jacket with matching skyscraper heels and from the outset the audience in Buxton gave her a huge welcome.  This lady oozes glamour and sex appeal, is still drop-dead gorgeous and it very hard to believe that Joan is 85 years old!  A screen backdrop showed the audience her private home movies which were delightful along with clips from her many professional roles.

Joan entertained the audience with her recollections of various stars she has worked with; to the delight of the audience, Joan described her role (as villain Alexis) in the cult 80s TV series Dynasty as great fun playing opposite Linda Evans – who played Krystle Carrington.

On the rival show DALLAS she mentioned her friend Larry ‘JR’ Hagman who she said was a very funny guy.  More stars she talked about working with were Paul Newman, Roger Moore, Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor and Bette Davis who she described as very difficult! Joan recalled the time she had huge fun making the Cinzano adverts for tv with Leonard Rossiter whom she spoke fondly of.

This is a lady that has great acting talent, chosen by RADA at 15 years of age when it was very difficult to get accepted, but her talent shone through and this is plainly seen over the last 70 years from all the films she has made together with theatre and tv appearances.

Receiving a standing ovation at the end of the evening, this was a night to remember in our beautiful theatre, the audience loved her and so did we.

The tour Joan Collins, Unscripted, has two further shows as part of the tour:

Grand Opera House, York

Tyne Theatre, Newcastle.
