Step Inside the Hargreaves Christmas Shop – Now Open

One of Buxton’s oldest and most cherished businesses, Hargreaves & Sons, has been trading quality homeware for nearly 160 years. A visit to the store is a treat at any time of year, but this winter there’s something truly special to explore: the brand-new Hargreaves Christmas Shop, is now open on the first floor.

The space where the Christmas Shop now resides has a deep connection to Hargreaves’ rich history. It has been 111 years since the crystal showroom first opened in here, making this new addition a beautiful nod to the past and bringing tradition back to where it all began.

A wide range of Cath Kidson is available.

Whether you’re dressing a festive mantle, decorating the tree, or creating a beautiful table-scape, you’ll find everything you need for the big day. Explore quirky baubles, winter wreaths, lighting, stylish gift ideas and much more.

In keeping with their reputation for quality, Hargreaves has filled the shop with top-quality brands such as Cath Kidston, William Morris at Home, Gisela Graham, Dartington (known for its glassware), Ulster Weavers, and more. And, they have something for every budget; Hargreaves has endured the ages for good reason.

The opening of the Christmas Shop is part of Hargreaves’ ongoing evolution. Formerly home to their much loved Tea Room, the first floor has been transformed to meet changing customer habits. Owner Martin Coles-Evans explained, “We must keep moving with the times. We’ve actually seen a return to customers shopping in person, with more people wanting to visit the store and have a look around. While shopping habits changed during the pandemic, we’re seeing a reversal of that trend now, which encouraged us to expand the shop upstairs and make the decision to say a fond farewell to the Tea Rooms.”

“As well as moving with the times, we’re still keen to preserve tradition as one of Buxton’s oldest shops and pride ourselves on providing exceptional customer service and the high-quality products we’re known for.”

A wide range of Christmas lighting has just arrived this week. For Christmas shoppers, complimentary gift wrapping is offered for purchases over £50.

What happens after Christmas?

Martin revealed the exciting plans ahead: “2025 is the company’s 160th year and it is an opportunity not to be missed. We champion the return of a vibrant High Street and want to lead by example. Our expansion over two floors will allow us to deliver even more fine quality gifts, homewares, cookware and tabletop in a unique store worthy of the people of Buxton and beyond.”

And there’s much more to offer beyond its Christmas Shop. On the ground floor, you’ll find an impressive selection of cookware, kitchenware, home fragrances, textiles, storage solutions, a more gifts and tableware. Cooks and bakers will find all the essentials needed to create the perfect feast year-round, from elegant table settings to top-quality kitchen tools.

Brands include Le Creuset, Emma Bridgewater, Spode, KitchenAid, Maison Berger Paris, Bronnley, Earth Squared and many more.
