Grendon Bed & Breakfast celebrates their latest tourism award. What’s Their Secret?

Tourism award

Grendon Bed & Breakfast on Bishop’s Lane is currently wearing the crown of guest houses in Buxton. The luxury B&B is rated #1 of 21 B&Bs on Tripadvisor as well as being picked out as Travellers Choice 2022 Best of the Best on the site; Tripadvisors’ highest recognition presented annually to businesses earning excellent reviews and ranked in the top 1% of properties worldwide.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, Grendon has just recently won the prestigious B&B of the Year Gold Award in the Visit Peak District and Derbyshire Tourism Awards for the second year in a row; now in its third year, the awards “celebrated the success and resilience of tourism businesses” whilst recognising the importance of the tourism sector to the local economy. Attractions, accommodation providers, pubs, restaurants and more, are mystery shopped and judged by an independent panel, honouring the very best in the industry. Dripping with praise and accolades, we asked the owners Andie and Neil for the secrets of their success.

“We’re entering out 6th year at the B&B and it’s been a changeable few years to say the least. Having undergone a full refurbishment when we first moved here and then the pandemic hit, we saw a big increase in people taking holidays in the UK and that still seems to be continuing. But we love what we do living in this beautiful town and yes it’s hard work but Neil and I take great pleasure from meeting guests from all around the world who choose to stay with us. We take pride in giving our guests a real home-from-home experience when they’re here. We bake fresh cakes every afternoon for guests and after a hike in the Peaks that’s always very welcome with a cup of tea!”, said Andie.

The property itself is a handsome Edwardian building dating back to 1914 occupying the long and serene stretch of Bishop’s Lane, extending from the leafy suburbs of Buxton into the famous rugged hills and moors of Derbyshire. It offers stunning vistas of Burbage Edge and the Alister MacKenzie-designed Cavendish Golf Club (and its scenic golf course). Enjoying a welcome distance from the hustle and bustle, the B&B is close enough to the town centre to be able to offer its guests access to Buxton’s many attractions.

Guest rooms, each with its own character are named after local reservoirs Derwent, Ladybower, Errwood and Fernilee. If you enjoy hiking, cycling or a spot of golf, there’s plenty of secure storage for equipment and muddy boots.

Commended for their friendly and helpful personal touch, Andie and Neil are looking forward to rest of the year. With a hands-on hospitality approach that goes beyond the call of B&B duty, their hard work certainly seems to have paid off.

“Times are still challenging and receiving the recognition from these awards makes a lot of difference and gives businesses the motivation to keep doing what you’re doing”, said Neil.

The Staycations trend certainly looks set to continue and if you prefer a smaller and more intimate hotel experience with a picturesque view, Grendon offers the comfort, peace and tranquility for that well deserved holiday in the Peak District.

For the best prices guaranteed, contact the property directly by phone or email and bookings can made direct via their website.
