Glossop Market Hall grand opening this weekend

A Landmark Returns to the Heart of Glossop

Following a major regeneration project to restore one of Glossop’s most iconic buildings, the “real hub” of the town is back and Glossop Market Hall re-opens on Saturday 29th November with a grand reopening, bringing a new era of food, retail and community life to the town centre.

The celebrations begin early with a special local open day on Friday 28th November, giving residents the chance to explore the restored space during a soft-launch preview. The official public opening takes place on Saturday 29th November, coinciding with Glossop’s Christmas lights switch-on – setting the stage for an exciting, festive weekend.

This regeneration of Glossop Market Hall has not only preserved the building’s character but created over 60 new jobs and new opportunities for local businesses, makers and entrepreneurs. Led by High Peak Borough Council, the project spans the Town Hall, Market Hall and Arcade, breathing new life into the heart of Glossop.

“A Once-in-a-Lifetime Investment”

Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Regeneration, Tourism and Leisure, said:

“This is the most significant regeneration Glossop has seen in a generation – a once-in-a-lifetime investment right in the heart of our town. While high streets up and down the country are facing real challenges, we’re doing something different: revitalising much-loved heritage buildings to create vibrant, modern spaces that will support local jobs, businesses, and community life.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be opening the doors on this High Peak Borough Council-delivered, multi-million pound transformation of Glossop’s Market Hall, Arcade and Town Hall. This is the biggest regeneration project in decades, a true passion project that breathes new life into the very heart of our town. What’s most exciting is that we can now share it with the community – a space that celebrates our heritage, supports local entrepreneurs and creates a destination Glossop can be proud of for generations to come.”

“From the outset, our vision has been to give local businesses and independent makers the platform they deserve, while building a vibrant hub that showcases the very best in food, drink and retail curated by our operator, The Hospitality Collective. Glossop Market Hall is set to thrive once again – a real gift to the town and the perfect way to kick off the festive season.”
