Exclusive gifts and souvenirs at Buxton Visitor Centre

Nestled in the heart of the town opposite our magnificent Grade I listed Crescent, Buxton Visitor Centre and gift shop is a superb base for discovering the best that Buxton and the surrounding Peak District has to offer. As well as being able to plan your visit with the team, the shop offers a wide range of gifts and souvenirs, many exclusively sourced and bespoke made for the Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust.

If you’re looking for a gift or a souvenir of your visit you’ll find pretty homewares, stylish stationery, well designed mementoes, local interest books and maps and a range specially selected for the little ones.

Gifts inspired by Victorian spa town heritage

Buxton is well known for it’s history and heritage as a spa town, named Aqua Arnemetiae by Roman soldiers who once came here. For centuries visitors have been lured by Buxton’s healing spa waters, including Mary Queens of Scots in 1583 when she stayed at the historic Old Hall Hotel. The boom in ‘taking the waters’ and the craze for spa water cures swept Victorian Britain with Buxton and its rival Bath at the helm of this boom.

Many of the items in the shop reflect the spa heritage of Buxton as well as the Georgian and Victorian elegance of the town. The unique range of glass bottles give visitors the opportunity to fill them at St Ann’s Spring outside the Visitor Centre.

Pump Room Events Programme

Having re-opened once again in 2017 after being closed to the public in 1997, the Pump Room is now used as an events space with Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust offering a packed year-round events programme.

As the redevelopment of the Crescent takes place to transform the iconic Grade 1 listed building into a luxury 80 bedroom spa hotel, the newly opened visitor centre is ideally placed to serve both visitors and residents of the town.

“We’ll be continually developing the events programme – whether you live here or are visiting, Buxton has a fascinating history as a spa town dating back to Roman Times and our events really focus on the towns rich history and heritage”, says Luke Bates, Visitor Centre Supervisor.

The Pump Room latest events programme can be found on their website and tickets for some events can be purchased in the Visitor Centre and events can also be booked online via Buxton Opera House.
