Dine, Browse and Celebrate at Pavilion Gardens This Summer
With Buxton’s busy summer and festival season in full swing, Pavilion Gardens is inviting visitors to enjoy even more during their time in the town – from relaxed pre-show dining and lively Thursday markets to discovering one of Buxton’s most distinctive wedding venues.
Whether you are heading to a festival performance, browsing locally made gifts or planning a celebration in beautiful surroundings, there are plenty of reasons to visit Pavilion Gardens this summer.
Enjoy Pre-Show Dining During the Festival Season
Make an evening of your trip to Buxton Opera House with a relaxed pre-show meal at the Pavilion Gardens Restaurant and Bar.
Overlooking the Gardens and Promenade, the spacious Restaurant & Bar can comfortably seat up to 80 diners and provides the perfect setting to meet friends, enjoy a meal and soak up the festival atmosphere before the performance begins.
Pre-show dining is available from 5pm to 6.30pm every day until 25th July 2026, before returning during the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival from 3rd to 15th August.
The dining times are designed to ensure guests can enjoy their meal without rushing, before arriving at the theatre, ready for the show.
Online booking is highly recommended, as only very limited availability is expected for walk-in diners during these busy pre-show hours.
The chefs take great care in preparing each dish, using fresh ingredients and locally sourced produce wherever possible. The menu includes a wide range of choices to suit different tastes, including vegetarian dishes, main meals and a selection of desserts.
A children’s menu is also available, alongside hot and cold sandwiches for those looking for a lighter option. On the final Sunday of every month, the Restaurant and Bar also hosts its popular carvery.

Browse the Thursday Market – and Become a Stall Holder
Visitors looking for a relaxed way to spend a summer’s day can also head along to the Pavilion Gardens Thursday Market.
Taking place outdoors on the first and third Thursday of every month from April to September, the market runs from 10am to 3pm and features a varied selection of local traders.
Browse handmade goods, unique gifts, locally produced items and delicious treats while enjoying the atmosphere of the Gardens. It is an ideal opportunity to shop for something special, meet friends or simply enjoy a leisurely midweek wander.
Pavilion Gardens is currently looking for more stallholders to help grow the Thursday Market and make it an even bigger part of Buxton’s events calendar. Local makers, producers, artists and independent businesses interested in trading are encouraged to get in touch with the team.
Visitors can come along, support local businesses and make a day of it in the Gardens.
On occasions when fewer traders are attending, the market may move indoors to the Octagon Lounge.
Weddings and Civil Ceremonies at Pavilion Gardens
Beyond its programme of summer events, Pavilion Gardens is also one of Buxton’s most distinctive wedding venues.
Set within 23 acres of beautiful Victorian parkland, the venue holds a Civil Wedding Licence, allowing civil ceremonies, marriages and partnerships to take place across three individually licensed spaces.
Couples can also add special touches including drinks receptions, canapés, miniature train rides and ice cream carts, helping to create a celebration that feels personal and memorable.
The Dion Redfern Memorial Bandstand
The bandstand offers an exceptional outdoor setting for an alfresco civil ceremony.
Nestled within the landscaped park, with the River Wye flowing behind it and wildlife throughout the surrounding gardens, it is a ceremony space unlike any other in the area.
The bandstand can accommodate up to 50 seated guests or 70 standing. It also has its own power supply, allowing music to be played throughout the ceremony.
The Botanical Gardens
For an intimate ceremony surrounded by colour, the Conservatory provides a beautiful backdrop filled with exotic plants.
Regularly maintained by Pavilion Gardens’ own horticulturist, it offers a highly individual and naturally decorative setting. The Conservatory can accommodate up to 34 seated guests or 80 standing.
With so many flowers and plants already filling the space, there is little need for additional floral decoration — the Conservatory speaks for itself.
The Octagon Hall
The magnificent Octagon Hall offers a grand setting for larger weddings and celebrations.
Originally designed by architect Robert Rippon Duke and opened in 1875, the Grade II listed building is one of the largest eight-sided buildings in Europe.
Its scale and grandeur are difficult to appreciate until experienced in person, so couples are strongly encouraged to arrange a viewing.
The Octagon can accommodate up to 1,200 standing guests or 1,000 seated guests in rows of chairs, although a minimum of around 100 wedding guests is recommended due to the size of the space.
Both the civil ceremony and evening reception can be held beneath the same roof, creating a seamless celebration in one of Buxton’s best-known historic buildings.
Wedding Receptions at Pavilion Gardens
Whether the plans are big and extravagant or intimate and understated, the Pavilion Gardens team can help bring every part of the day together.
The dedicated wedding planner works with couples throughout the planning process, from choosing catering options and bespoke drinks packages to arranging a Master of Ceremonies. The team is there to ensure both the couple and their guests enjoy a relaxed and memorable celebration.
The Pavilion Restaurant is available for evening wedding receptions from 7pm and caters for a minimum of 50 guests. Overlooking the Gardens and Promenade, it offers an attractive setting for dining, drinks and celebrations.
For larger weddings, the Octagon Hall provides the most spacious and impressive reception venue at Pavilion Gardens. It features a large dance floor and fully licensed bar and can be used for both the ceremony and evening reception.
Adjacent to the Octagon Hall, the Octagon Lounge offers a smaller alternative and can be used from Monday to Friday for wedding and evening receptions.
