Halfway through the school holidays, you’re probably wondering how to keep your little darlings entertained, especially now the weather has taken a bit of a turn. There are five good reasons why you should take them to Buxton Museum and Art Gallery:

Throughout the school holidays, Buxton Museum and Gallery is hosting a series of free Make and Take sessions every Thursday from 10am to 12pm. All you have to do is drop in and allow yourselves around 30 minutes to complete the activity, which is different every week. The rest of the time, the kids can do The Bear Trail, a quiz, play with the microscope or even dress up as Romans. It’ll keep them quiet for an hour or two and it’s educational.

[box style=’success’]2. There’s work by famous artists on display[/box]

As part of its 125th anniversary exhibition, Buxton Museum currently has some rarely-seen artwork on display by artists such as L.S. Lowry, Henri Matisse and Patrick Heron. Usually kept in storage, the museum and art gallery finds the occasional opportunity to show some of its collection of over 1000 artworks, which belong to the county of Derbyshire.

Ordinarily, Buxton Museum has a selection of strange curiosities on display. However, at the moment, you can see something truly bizarre: A mummified moggy found by builders in the attic of the old Post Office in 2016. The petrified pussy won’t be on exhibition forever as it has conservation issues so bring in your children and give them nightmares while you can.
