Buxton & Leek College offers study in lots of different subject areas. Hospitality and Catering have seven industry standard kitchens at the Buxton campus and if you fancy yourself as the next Harry Kane, Buxton Football Club Academy have partnered up with BLC to offer a two-year course to deliver their elite football academy provision.  

Also Check out the impressive £8.5 million redeveloped facilities at Leek campus which includes a state-of-the-art purpose built Engineering facility and the fantastic William Morris Building for Art & Design. 

The commercially run Hair & Beauty salons at the college exclusively partnered with Wella offer great perks; students and staff receive a discount off beauty treatments in the salon and they can buy MAC and Dermalogica products at reduced costs.

  1. Meet the tutors in person

The great thing about the Open Day is that you get to meet the tutors before you even start your course. Get a taster for what a course will be really like and what you’ll study. Their friendly tutors will talk you through their areas of expertise and what career opportunities could be open to you upon completion of the course.

School leavers and adults (19+) alike, there’s a course for everyone here. Whether you’re going straight into college from school and aren’t sure what to do next, or if you want to want to up-skill to enhance your CV, learn something new or go for a complete career change, BLC caters for everyone.  

  1. Our campuses are historic landmarks

Leek campus can trace its routes back to 1868 when the Leek School of Art was founded and Art & Design study remains very much at the heart of the college. Buxton campus in the Dome was crowned Europe’s biggest unsupported dome until 1902. At 145 meters in diameter, it’s undoubtedly spectacular. 

  1. A free bacon butty and hot drink on the day!

Everyone attending the Open Day at Buxton & Leek College campuses can enjoy a FREE bacon butty (vegetarian option available) and hot drink! On arrival you’ll be given a voucher to redeem your breakfast treat (or follow the smell of the bacon!) 

  1. Talk to specialist college staff 

You’ll no doubt have a whole list of questions about how things work at Buxton & Leek College (make a note of them before you arrive on the day). There are probably things you never thought of. You live outside of the area – how do you travel to our campuses? Can you receive any financial help? What about childcare? What student support is offered? Student discount – what’s on offer?   1. Find out about the brand-new T Levels

T Levels are coming to BLC in September! First introduced in 2020, T Levels are the equivalent to 3 A Levels, studied over three years. With a focus on vocational skills, T Levels have been developed in collaboration with businesses and employers. Designed to give young people valuable skills employers are looking for and feature an in-depth 45-day work placement too. BLC are the only provider in North Derbyshire to offer T Levels this year  in Health, Digital and Education from September. 

  1. Apprenticeships with hundreds of employers 

At their Open Day you can speak to our tutors, assessors, and support staff about everything there is to know about apprenticeships. Being an apprentice means being employed in a real job whilst being able to access all the student benefits on offer, so you get the best of both worlds. 

  1. Get to grips with what financial programmes and funding is available

The college offers various financial schemes and funding programmes. From bursaries, help with childcare, the Financial Support Fund and support towards college meals – get the low down on everything you need to know.
