The last 18 months have been tough for everyone but there are a few success stories. With lots of people having spare time during lockdown and outdoor exercise established as a safe activity, cycling has grown in popularity. Peak Ascent Cycles in Buxton is no exception to the rule. Being on the doorstep of the Peak District, the shop is in the perfect spot to get lots of people onto two wheels and out into the countryside. In fact, the resident cycle experts have been so successful, they needed to relocate from Higher Buxton to new premises on The Colonnade in Lower Buxton.

“We’ve had a fantastic three years in Higher Buxton” says owner Patrick Healy “but we needed a bigger place to keep up with the demand”. Peak Ascent’s new shop is twice as big as the previous one and is not only able to stock more bikes but provide an even wider choice with leading brands such as Forme, Bianchi, Raleigh, Cannondale and more electric bikes.

Of course, the change of location doesn’t mean a change in service. What made Peak Ascent the go-to place for bikes in the first place was their bespoke customer care; offering tips on nutrition and where to cycle, as well as advice on the bikes themselves, helping both veterans and newcomers alike. The service doesn’t end with the purchase of a bike as you can pop back for a chat, a coffee and a tune-up. Not just a shop but a pitstop.

With the school holidays approaching and staycations the likelihood, you might be pondering the possibility of getting the whole family out to explore the UK’s oldest national park on two wheels. Peak Ascent’s tailored service extends to all ages, abilities and budgets. Their ethos is to get everyone onto a bike. To make a purchase even easier, they operate a delivery service and a flexible payment plans with V12 Retail Finance. They also have plans to provide electric bike hire in the very near future to help visitors and residents conquer those characteristic hills – watch this space!

If you’ve been thinking about getting on a saddle and want a friendly local independent shop that can give you the options and the individual care a big chain store can’t, Peak Ascent Cycles are your people. They’re now even easier to find in Buxton’s historic town centre, just around the corner from the famous Crescent Hotel. Switch off the telly and get on your bike!
