After 15 years apart, Oasis, the iconic Brit-pop band that defined a generation, announced this morning at 8am they are set to reunite, following much speculation in recent days.
The Gallagher brothers, Noel and Liam, who famously split in 2009 due to personal and creative differences, are putting their feuds aside for a much-anticipated comeback tour.
This reunion is more than just a music event; it’s a significant cultural moment, particularly for their hometown of Manchester. Oasis rose to fame in the 1990s, becoming synonymous with the city’s vibrant music scene. Their gritty sound, combined with anthems like ‘Wonderwall’, ‘Champagne Supernova’ and ‘Don’t Look back in Anger’, captured the essence of Manchester’s working-class spirit and propelled the city onto the global stage, amidst the explosion of Brit-pop in the early and mid 90s.
Fans of the Manchester band include the city’s mayor, Andy Burnham. Speaking on BBC Breakfast he said “a tour is the news we have all been waiting for” and “it promises to be a massive day for Manchester”.
“Manchester is having a moment right now. The eyes of the world will be on the city, it’s going to be thee place to be.”
Manchester is ready to welcome its favourite sons back with open arms, as the city prepares for what could be the biggest comeback in pop history.
