Situated in the heart of the Peak District, in the spa town of Buxton, Jantar offers fabulous, individual jewellery for all occasions. We specialise in wedding and engagement rings, fine jewellery, sterling silver, Baltic amber, natural gemstones, and local Blue John.
Humble Beginnings in Brighton
Kate founded Jantar in 1997, starting from humble beginnings with a market stall in the bustling North Lanes of Brighton. Specialising exclusively in Baltic amber at the time, Kate would travel by coach to Poland, seeking out new and unusual pieces for her growing stall. Along the way, she deepened her knowledge of this unique stone and grew her passion for the jewellery business.
Celebrating 25 Years in Buxton
In the year 2000, it was time for proper retail premises, and Jantar opened in the Cavendish Arcade in Buxton. This move allowed Kate to expand her collections to include jewellery and gemstones from around the world — a tradition that continues to this day with an ever-evolving range of unique and special pieces.

Baltic Amber Specialists
Every piece of their extensive amber collection is authentic Baltic amber, hand-picked with great care from the many artists and designers they have worked closely with over the past three decades. Baltic amber is between 40 and 60 million years old — a beautiful and varied stone with a rich and ancient history.
Derbyshire Blue John
Our local stone, Blue John, is unique to the Peak District. This rare gemstone is instantly recognisable by the striking bands of blue, purple, yellow, and white fluorspar that run through the rock. Jantar offers the highest quality of beautifully set, locally made Blue John jewellery.

We offer stunning, exclusive Ayala Bar jewellery — all handcrafted and limited edition. Jantar has worked with Ayala Bar for more than 20 years and proudly carries one of the largest collections of her designs in the UK.
A Historic Setting
Jantar is located in the historic heart of Buxton, inside the old Victorian bath house at the Cavendish Arcade. This beautiful building, on the right wing of the majestic Crescent Hotel, was built in 1852 and designed by Henry Currey, architect to the 6th Duke of Devonshire, to house the thermal spa. The original Minton tiles still decorate the building, and Jantar is proud to have the only remaining section of original mosaic floor. The arcade is also home to a stunning stained-glass ceiling, installed in the large barrel-vaulted roof in 1985, which floods the area with beautiful, coloured light.
