Looking for a unique way to spend the weekend? The much-loved Buxton Garden Trail returns on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd June, inviting visitors to discover some of the town’s most beautiful private gardens while supporting local charities.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Buxton’s limestone landscape, this annual event celebrates creativity, nature and the joy of gardening.
More than 30 very different gardens to explore
More than 30 private gardens will open their gates across the weekend, offering a rare opportunity to explore colourful planting schemes, peaceful woodland corners, wildlife-friendly spaces and inspiring garden designs that are usually hidden from public view.
Each garden reflects the passion and personality of its owner, with styles ranging from traditional cottage gardens overflowing with roses and lavender to contemporary spaces designed with sustainability and biodiversity in mind. Along the way, visitors can meet many of the gardeners themselves, who are often happy to share ideas, stories and practical tips.
Gardens are tucked throughout Buxton’s unique limestone landscape – beside old quarries, along woodland streams, and high above the town with sweeping views towards the Peak District — creating a trail full of intrigue and discovery. Visitors can enjoy a diverse and inspiring collection of gardens, ranging from small, beautifully crafted spaces to larger, naturalistic landscapes.
The event is known for its warm and welcoming atmosphere, with plant sales, home-grown specimens, with some gardens offering homemade cakes and refreshments on the trail.
Father’s Day gift?
With Father’s Day falling on Sunday 21st June, the Garden Trail also makes a thoughtful and unusual gift idea. Instead of the usual presents, why not treat Dad to a relaxing day exploring beautiful gardens and enjoying the best of Buxton in bloom?
Entry is excellent value, with wristbands costing just £5 per adult and providing access to all participating gardens across both days. Accompanied children can attend free of charge, making it an affordable day out for the whole family.
This year’s trail is raising funds for two local charities, Mentel and Brighter Opportunities, helping visitors enjoy a wonderful weekend while supporting important community causes.
