A Taste of Pride and Pastries: Jane Austen Afternoon Tea at Buxton Crescent
A Regency Setting Steeped in Literary History
This June, fans of literature and luxury are invited to step back into the elegance of the Regency era with a uniquely delightful experience. In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the birth of literary icon Jane Austen, the magnificent Buxton Crescent Hotel is offering a Jane Austen Themed Afternoon Tea—a refined affair worthy of the author herself.
Taking place exclusively over the weekend of 7th and 8th June 2025, this special event will be hosted in the hotel’s opulent Blue Room, an exquisitely restored setting that echos the grandeur of Austen’s world. It’s a fitting tribute to a writer who is believed to have visited the area while revising the final chapters of Pride and Prejudice, drawing inspiration from the sweeping Derbyshire scenery.
Delicate Treats with a Taste of Tradition
Served in four sittings at 1pm and 3pm each day, this enchanting afternoon tea will showcase a specially curated selection of sweet and savoury delicacies handcrafted by the hotel’s expert pastry chef. Highlights include the beloved Bakewell Tart, a true Derbyshire classic with layers of rich raspberry preserve and smooth frangipane in a crisp, buttery pastry shell.
A Novel Gift to Take Home
In collaboration with Pan Macmillan, every guest will receive a complimentary copy of one of Austen’s beloved novels, making this more than just tea—it’s an immersive literary experience. To further evoke the charm of the period, guests will be treated to live readings from Pride and Prejudice, bringing to life the wit and romance of Austen’s most famous work in the grand, historic surroundings of the Grade I listed Crescent.
Raise a Teacup to Jane Austen’s Legacy
Austen herself once wrote that there was “no finer county in England than Derbyshire,” and there’s no finer way to celebrate her milestone anniversary than by enjoying this beautifully themed event.
