Artwork in the Winter Sale is available at exceptionally reduced prices so if you’re looking for a Christmas gift with a difference, then look no further.
To see the full selection of work in the High Peak Artists Winter Sale, visit the Art Café located upstairs in Pavilion Gardens.
High Peak Artists permanent exhibition Gallery in the Gardens is located in the Pavilion Gardens Gift Boutique (see opening times below) where you can see a large variety of art work, all of which is available to buy. If you wish to purchase any artwork or have questions, artists are on duty in the gallery every day and are happy to talk about the work on display.
Who are High Peak Artists?
Established in 1996 when Maurice Roberts, the manager of the Pavilion Gardens, having allowed local artists to sell their work outside the swimming pool, offered them the opportunity to set up an exhibition in an empty council building – The Pump Room.
The group evolved into High Peak Artists and they went on to operate a seasonal gallery in the Pump Room for 12 years. In 2009 the Pavilion Gardens was redeveloped to incorporate a Tourist Information Centre alongside a permanent home for the artists –Gallery in the Gardens.
About the Gallery
The group now has 45 members covering a multitude of disciplines including various forms of painting; printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture, glass, wood, textiles & jewellery. And the best thing is, everything you see here at the exhibition is available to buy, so you can find something truly unique and even collect pieces by your favourite artist.
Hand made by local craftsmen – unlike imported, mass produced products on sale elsewhere. It is also one of the few free, wet weather visitor attractions in the Peak District! If you fancy some lunch or a hot drink a full menu is available in the Pavilion Gardens Café.
The gallery has been a huge success and frequently receives praise for the quality, variety and affordability of the work on offer. A waiting list operates and membership is by selection for artists who wish to exhibit here. Get in touch to find out more. All members are local artists & makers and the group receives no external funding and is entirely self-sufficient.
The Art Café
Short term exhibitions by members are offered in a mezzanine gallery – The Art Café – above the Pavilion Gardens Café.
Many members offer tuition in their artform like Pauline Townsend – silk painting; Carl Longmate – oil painting; Hannah Dodd – feltmaking; Caroline Chouler – ceramics; Dave & Jan Butcher – photography; Eric Wilson – wildlife painting; Adele Kime – jewellery; Louise Jannetta – printmaking and David Woodrow – painting & drawing.
A highly talented group of 45 local artists & makers look forward to welcoming you at the Pavilion Gardens, Buxton.
