Funfair officially opened by Buxton Carnival Queen 2017.

The James Mellor funfair, as part of Buxton Well Dressing Festival 2017, was officially opened today by festival Queen Marie Cartledge. Marie is 16 years old an attends Buxton College studying Level 3 Health and Social Care.

Marie enjoyed a ride on the Waltzers and then presented with complimentary tickets by Trevor Zoppi to enjoy the fair rides this evening. Her parents joined her as well to wish her well in her reign along with Buxton Well Dressing committee member Maureen Kitchen, who has worked tirelessly for many years with the festival carnival queens and who is a Life Vice President in the organisation.

Earlier today Queen Marie and her retinue began their tour of Buxton’s local hospitals, nursing homes and sheltered accommodation where they provide cheer and happiness to all; they will continue the tour tomorrow and Friday.

The funfair will be open from Wednesday 5th July until Sunday 9th July.
