Get your your glad rags on for a beautiful Gala Ball at the newly refurbished Octagon at the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton on Friday, November 30th from 7.30pm, with all proceeds going to the redevelopment of Fernilee Methodist Church and Churchyard.

Fernilee Methodist Church is a focal point of the local area. The church is a place for individuals and community groups to worship, meet or seek solace.

Like some small chapels across the country, Fernilee faced closure because of costly building repairs. The good news is that Fernilee Methodist Church has a vision to make the chapel and churchyard viable for the future. Local residents from Fernilee are working closely with the church to redevelop the chapel. Sally Heyworth, one of the fundraisers, said, “local communities are at threat of disappearing because we’re losing our local independent businesses such as shops, local pubs and local churches. Without these places where people can meet to socialise or just see each other for a chat, people can become more isolated and it has a knock on effect because as one place closes, others can often follow”.

Rev. Sandow said “Churches are unique. A Christian congregation’s primary task is to help people discover and grow in their faith. Many churches are no longer viable, but Fernilee’s mission is an exciting one”.

The church, which dates back to 1871, will be called ‘The Fernilee Discovery Place’. The Fernilee Discovery Place will incorporate worship, heritage, creative arts and wellbeing activities in the picturesque Goyt Valley. Alongside all the exciting plans for the first floor is the conversion of the ground floor into a holiday retreat in this beautiful part of the Peak District National Park. The new Discovery Place will be a hub centre for the community.

The ambitious plans need 30k to go ahead and a charity ball at The Octagon, Pavilion Gardens will go a long way to make this a reality.
