Buxton based specialist beer and spirits retailer Beer District, located in the Cavendish Shopping Arcade has expanded on its craft beer and local ale range to now include wines and Prosecco and for the connoisseurs among you, a new and wider range of beautiful artisan gins and spirits.
Since opening in summer 2016, owners Darren White and Matt Darken have seen a growing demand not only for the wide range of micro brewed beers now available but also customers seeking artisan gins which have become increasingly popular in recent years; customers no longer need to travel far and wide to big stores out of town with gins previously unavailable in Buxton now for sale here at Beer District.
Matt said “there’s a growing desire to really experiment with brewing beer these days and the same goes for artisan gins you now see on the market – and the creations we see are getting wilder and whackier which is great fun to work with and to talk to customers about too.”
“I love gin and am passionate for good quality, good tasting gins that offer something a bit different – for example Forest Gin, distilled in Macclesfield really is one of the best tasting gins out there, with fresh alpine and sharp citrus flavours it’s an absolute must for any gin fan to try! I like it with crushed ice, fever tree tonic and lemon rind but what ever takes your fancy really”.
Darren on the other hand loves his ales and beers – “I’m quite partial to a good hoppy pale ale, such as Summer Pale Ale or Penny Lane Pale Ale by Liverpool based Mad Hatter Beers. Then there’s all the various local beers and ales – like Torrside Brewing and Thornbridge and it’s great to see so many local, Peak District breweries doing so well “.
Darren and Matt were keen to expand when they were asked more and more by customers about artisan gins but also wine and Prosecco which have recently arrived in the shop.
The beauty of Beer District as Darren explains is “if you’re staying in Buxton for a few days there’s now somewhere you can buy good quality beer, wines, spirits and ciders – plus soft drinks too, whether that’s before a show at the theatre or after a long walk and of course locals have got to know us well with many regulars now visiting us. Our shop is a new concept for Buxton too – because we also put on regular social events where we open up the shop ’till late, bring in tables and nibbles and let customers get stuck in to try some new tipples – which is always huge fun!”
Darren and Matt are always on hand to give you expert advice on food and drink matching too. To keep up to date with the latest news including future social events, you can follow Beer District on Facebook , Instagram and Twitter.
Beer District is centrally located in an outside unit within the Cavendish Shopping Arcade on the Colonade / The Quadrant, a few doors down from Pizza Express and just minutes from the Opera House, Pavilion Gardens and Broadwalk.
A range of gift packs are available from £8.95 – £18.95, as well as gift vouchers too. Darren said “Gift packs can contain any choice of beers and ciders and can make an ideal present, especially if you’re stuck on what to buy someone – you can’t go wrong with some really decent beer or cider.”
