Buxton and the surrounding area are home to several major events and key attractions and as we progress through the coming weeks and months during the current crisis things are likely to change on an on-going basis.
To help keep you up to date, here’s a list of major attraction closures and event cancellations. We’ll be updating this list continually as new announcements are made. Attractions, Leisure Facilities and Libraries
All 45 Derbyshire County Council-run libraries and the Derbyshire Record Office in Matlock are to temporarily closed from on Friday 20th March to protect staff and customers using the services from the risk of coronavirus and to help to prevent its spread.
Archie’s Farm is closed until further notice.
Buxton Cinema is temporarily closed until further notice. All tickets purchased for events up until the end of April will be automatically refunded.
Buxton Visitor Centre
Buxton Visitor Centre (Pump Room) run by Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust is closed to the public until further notice.
The High Peak Tourist Information Service will delivered temporarily by the staff via email and phone. The phone service will be available Tuesday to Friday 10.00 am to 3.30 pm and email enquiries will be answered as quickly as possible.
Buxton and High Peak Golf Club
The golf course will be open from Wednesday 13th May. Golf courses can now open across England as per the latest government guidelines.
Buxton Museum and Art Gallery
Buxton Museum is closed until further notice.
Buxton Opera House
The Opera House is temporarily closed until further notice. All tickets purchased directly via the opera house for events up until the end of April will be automatically refunded. Many other shows have now been postponed. If you had a ticket for a show which has been rescheduled please check your emails, as they will have contacted you with more details.
Buxton Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre
Buxton Swimming Pool and Fitness is currently closed. Their most recent update can be found here. All memberships will be frozen while they remain closed and members will therefore not pay their regular direct debit for the foreseeable future, the freeze will happen automatically.
Fixtures are postponed until further notice. Their latest statement from 8th May is their website.
Cavendish Golf Club
The golf course will be open from Wednesday 13th May. Measures and guidelines will be in place. Golf courses can now open across England as per the latest government guidelines. Their latest statement can be found on their website with details on guidelines for players.
All areas of Chatsworth, apart from the estate farm shop in Pilsley, are closed until further notice. This includes the car parks, public toilets, house, garden, farmyard and adventure playground, gift shops and food outlets.
Discover Buxton Tours
All tours are temporarily closed.
Devonshire Dome Spa / Restaurant / Café
All facilities are currently closed until further notice.
All Go Ape UK sites are currently closed.
The Green Man Gallery
The gallery is closed until further notice. They are now holding exhibitions online – which can be found on their website. Regular updates will be added to their website and Facebook page.
Haddon Hall and the grounds are closed until further notice.
The Heights of Abraham
From Saturday 21st March 2020, in line with government guidance, The Heights of Abraham will be temporarily closed.
National Trust properties
All National Trust houses, shops and cafés are closed until further notice. From Sunday 22nd March, they also too the decision to close their parks and gardens, in addition to the houses, shops and cafés, to help restrict the spread of coronavirus.
All facilities at the complex are currently closed until further notice.
Peak Practice Golf
Re-opening from Wednesday 13th May. Various measures and guidelines will be in place. Golf courses can now open across England as per the latest government guidelines. Their latest statement can be found on their Facebook page and website, with details on guidelines for players. NHS workers are being offered discount (with ID).
Poole’s Cavern (including visitor centre and café) is temporarily closed to the public. The country park woodland trails remain open and they are encouraging visitors to visit and enjoy the woodlands, Solomon’s Temple viewpoint and the surrounding countryside. They are keeping an outside toilet open for visitors at all times.
Buxton Flower Pot Trail
The Buxton Flower Pot Trail has been bought forward and you can take place now! With many of the towns events for summer now cancelled the organisers are keen to ‘brighten up the day of those still out and about – key workers, community volunteers and households out on their daily exercise opportunity – and we want to do that via the oh so slightly silly medium of flowerpot people.’
So, take part now – create a flowerpot person and display it in your front yard/garden/doorstep/window/gate to bring a smile to anyone walking by. The organisers will produce a first electronic flowerpot location map for the start of May so can you see where else they are located locally to you. Buxton Spa Art Prize
This years event has been cancelled. However they are now inviting artists to submit work for their monthly Buxton Spa Art Prize 2020 Online Gallery. Submissions may be created anywhere – your own garden, the view from your window, a still-life in your own home. Find out more and enter your work vis their website: buxtonspaprize.co.uk
Buxton Military Tattoo
This event has been re-scheduled to 3rd July 2021.

All special events are now suspended. Tuesday and Saturday markets are going ahead as normal for essential food supplies. Social distancing queuing is in place and customers are asked to observe this when visiting the market.
Hillhead, the UK’s largest quarrying, construction and recycling exhibition, has been postponed to next year: 22nd – 24th June 2021.
RHS Chatsworth Flower Show
All RHS shows and events are cancelled with immediate effect until 30th June 2020.
Buxton International Festival
For the first time in forty years the Buxton International Festival in July 2020 has been cancelled. Next year the festival will take place 2nd July – 18th July 2021.
Buxton Festival Fringe

This years festival is now cancelled.
The 27th International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival
