The newly opened Coda Vinyl Cafe is fast becoming the talk of the town in Buxton.

The joint venture for Neil McDonald and Barbara Morse is a passion shared for tasty wholesome food and a love for music. Following the success of their record store Vinyl Planet in Macclesfield three years ago and the comeback of vinyl in recent years, the couple saw a gap in the market in Buxton; tapping into Barbara’s baking and cooking skills, they embarked on looking for a suitable space for the new business.

Owner and former musician Neil, said, “We immediately thought Higher Buxton area was an ideal location – with the many independent businesses in this area, it reminded us of the Northern Quarter in Manchester with the vibe here with bars like The Ale Stop, South 16 and 53 Degrees North”.

“And vinyl is back in a big way and we wanted to give people in Buxton somewhere to buy and access their favourite music records and artists of a wide genre”.

“Customers increasingly travel from all over to visit our record shop in Macclesfield and vinyl records are more and more sought after, as opposed to streaming and downloads – it’s great to bring back music as a physical entity”.

Neil and Barbara recently moved to the area last year to be closer to their business in Macclesfield and immediately fell in love with Buxton, having never really spent much time here previously. Barbara said, “we noticed lots of development happening in the town and Buxton is just beautiful – the quirky buildings here and all the outdoors things on offer in the surrounding Peak District area – we felt the time was right to open the business”.

“We’re sourcing our food from local suppliers such as Mycocks, Pig & Pepper Bakery and Vintage Teas – all based in Buxton, which was really important to us to keep things local. And me personally being a fan of good quality fresh coffee – we use Buxton Roastery blends, also created here in the town”, said Barbara.

Coda buy and sell new and used records from a wide range of genres and musical tastes. The food menu offers breakfast snacks, paninis (a range of gluten free paninis are available) freshly based cakes and daily specials. They plan to expand and change the menu for each season.

Free wi-fi is available for customers and there are power plugs with USB charging ports for phone charging. Dogs are also welcome in the cafe.

Opening times are 10am – 4pm Monday to Friday, 9am – 4pm on Saturday and 11am to 4pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
