About

As one of Buxton’s most popular and well established open art competitions, the Buxton Spa Art Prize has like many other events been cancelled for 2020 due to to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Under normal circumstances, entrants to the competition are given a local location to feature in their work (picked at random). Artists are often spotted around the town in the run up to the exhibition which features entries and prize winners and takes place in summer each year at The Green Man Gallery.

The competition has grown hugely in popularity and raised the profile of artists and their work, enhancing Buxton’s national reputation as a centre for arts and culture.

The Buxton Spa Art Prize Online Gallery has now been created to display artists’ work completed during the 2020 lockdown.

As the organisers are unable to run this years event, they now are inviting artists to submit work – so get in touch!

Artists are finding ways to continue working and at the moment it is perhaps more important than ever that this is encouraged.

Their online gallery was launched in April and new submissions are being added all the time. Eventually, once restrictions are lifted the organisers plan to showcase a final gallery full of pictures from new en-plein air locations!

How to enter

Submissions may be created anywhere – your own garden, the view from your window, a still-life in your own home.  Bearing in mind the restrictions in place at the moment, you will have a completely blank canvas.  Paint whatever inspires you. The organisers are looking forward to receiving work created during this period of lockdown.

Website links and other contact details, including social media profiles for all entrants will also be included so please send these in with your entries.

Work can be submitted here: buxtonspaprize.co.uk/submit-work

There is no charge for entries and there is also no limit on the number of pieces you can submit.

All ages are welcome to submit work and if enough children’s work is received they will create a separate gallery.

Some work is or sale – if you wish to purchase a painting please either contact the artist directly or message The Buxton Spa Art Prize via their contact page on their website.
