Hall Bank & The Square

Hall Bank & The Square

The Old Hall Hotel located on The Square, dates back to 1573 where Mary Queen of Scots famously stayed.

Further along The Square, No.6 The Square tea room is housed in this beautiful Georgian building (1803 – 1806).

Across the road from The Square is the very steep Hall Bank, lined with Victorian era town houses.

The Burlington Hotel (1874, first house at the bottom of Hall Bank) became The Savoy in 1905 and is now private flats.

TIP: See where Mary Queen of Scots stayed from 1576 – 78 at The Old Hall Hotel, reputedly England’s oldest hotel.
