New Artisan Market market opens in historic former 19th century corn mill in Buxton

Originally built by the Duke of Devonshire in the late 1800s to house corn, The Arches Artisan Market opened its doors last weekend, which has 18 retail units on offer.

Exposed brick work, original tiled flooring and arched ceilings make this a unique space for retailers and small businesses and a brand new concept for the town in this historic building. Located opposite Ashwood Park and close to Sylvan Car and coach park, The Arches is already home to a number of businesses with units filling up fast.

Owner Ian, (who also owns the business above, IWS) said he really wanted to do something ‘different for Buxton and do something with this amazing space’. ‘The building is stunning inside and the arches are ideal for creating a varied shopping experience, all under one roof – and Buxton doesn’t have anything like this at all, this historic building really is a one off so i had to do something special with it and thought, why not an artisan market?! So here we are and we’re receiving lots of interest with half of the units already taken’.

The Pig and Pepper tearoom offers fresh coffees, tea and cold drinks, snacks, cakes and salads, and sandwiches and toasties made with various fillings using with artisan fresh breads. The menu will change weekly with new dishes on offer.
