The 5th annual Buxton Film Festival will take place next month, back with a bigger and wider selection of films than ever before, with something to suit all ages.
The festival celebrates the huge diversity of world cinema and screenings will take place in the 90 seat Pavilion Arts Centre Studio, with a mix of current and classic films as well as a few for families to enjoy together.
Well known for championing great films featuring award winning performances through to the lesser the known independent films, this years festival brings us some of the very best in film making past and present from sci-fi, fantasy and romance to comedy, thriller, adventure and more.
With a grant from the British Film Institute in 2016, Buxton Film recently upgraded to a new projection and sound system at the Pavilion Arts Centre Studio, improving the cinematic experience for audiences for 2017.
Buxton Film recently discovered that the director Robert Stevenson, who made many well-known films such as Mary Poppins, was born in Buxton. With generous help from Film Hub North West Central they will commemorate his life and work with special events, an exhibition and some of his best films — they’re also publishing a small biographical pamphlet about him so look out for that.
To round things off – don’t miss the special sing-a-long screening of his best loved film Mary Poppins! Collect a goody-bag as you arrive containing tuppence, a spoon, paper and string and anything else they can squeeze in. Naturally it will be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious….
